Featuring Jamie's 1980 Suzuki RS 250

Here's what it looked like in stock form.
Nice, but the tri-color graphics sure add a lot to the vintage Suzuki feel.
Note: the front side skit bolt is higher than on the RM.
Can you spot it on mine below??

Here's a photo from the interwebs of a factory RS 175.
Anybody out there that had one of these???
They sure look nice!! Love it!!

3/5/23
Lots of progress on this cold March weekend (yes, that's snow in the photo)
Intake system fully installed with airbox & Uni filter, new Mikuni carb, (note about the new Mikuni carb - the casting on the carb was quite rough on the intake and output sides. I sanded & filed those to a smooth finish to work well with the 1980 rubber fittings). The correct Suzuki NOS carb to cylinder rubber intake boot was installed with the correct original style clamps. (That intake boot was unobtainium until a very nice person parting out an RS made this available for a modest price. Thank you!!)

K&N fuel filter
added, Gas Tank installed, Rear Fender & Side Plastics installed. Just a few more details before it's ready to rip!
Sorry for low quality images, my ipad really let me down! Maybe fogged lens due to cold.

Note: The tank & side plate decals are not correct for this bike. But it's my bike and I've loved this look since the 80's when I was riding my Orange DS 100 and the superstar motocross racers of the time were riding the glorious yellow Suzuki RM's with tri-color blue stripes. Tank decal is available here.
(links provided, I make no money off these. Just sharing.)

Other details include a new custom rebuilt throttle cable (using the coil cover and boot on the carb end from the original).
New gold chain, new chain guard, new intake box cover. All cables old and new got a squirt or two of cable lube and they are working nicely!
This little tool for lubing cables worked well.

Started it up again! The new throttle cable is installed and the old Suzuki idled nicely. I was able to wheel it outside and let it run for a bit.

New piston installed!!
The original seat is in great shape, but the foam is really stiff. I found and bought the correct seat saddle (matching part number) and will build a new seat for
riding while keeping the original seat. Here's a reproduction seat cover. Here's the seat foam.
I wanted blue fork boots and the are pretty good if a bit flimsy.

About a year since we hauled it home. Lots of bearings replaced. And also tires & brakes and stuff.
It's a rare bike. Researching and finding the correct parts, that's the ticket!

New wheel bearings, new brakes, new swing arm bearings, new fork boots, new tires.
You wouldn't believe how many bearings are in the rear wheel alone!

Teardown in progress...
It's a very lightweight bike at this point.

Dirt bike stuff.
